Their has been a campaign going on for a while in naming the New 7 Wonders of Nature. Amongst those nominated was El Yunque National Forest.
El Yunque, as it has been commonly known for many years, is the only rain forest located in the United States. It was formally known as the Luquillo National Forest or the Caribbean National Forest, but was changed by Executive Order to El Yunque National Forest in 2007.
El Yunque is home to over hundreds of trees, plants and animals. It is comprised of (4) smaller forests: Tabonuco Forest, Palo Colorado Forest, Sierra Palm Forest, and Dwarf Forest. El Yunque is very important to the island inhabitants as it contains one of the largest natural collections of Taino petroglyphs.
