The Family Festival Street Fair will have a FREE feature film screening that audiences of all ages will enjoy! Featuring an exciting sneak-preview program of the upcoming summer comedy, The Smurfs 2, with a special guest appearance by Christina Ricci.

The evil wizard Gargamel chases the Smurfs out of their village and into the exciting, real-life world of New York City in this family mega-hit featuring Neil Patrick Harris, Hank Azaria, Glee’s Jayma Mays and the voice talents of Katy Perry, Alan Cumming, Jonathan Winters, Fred Armisen and more.

Admission is FREE and first-come, first-served.Lines begin at BMCC/TPAC 30 minutes prior to the start of the program.

Castle Hill Little League Parade This Saturday

The Castle Hill Little League is a staple of the the Bronx as it has been around for many decades helping keep kids off the streets. This year they will be having their parade this Saturday, April 27 and it will be a very special occasion as it will be held in honor of the Sandy Hook Victims.

This year’s parade has special relevance, not only for him but for the entire community, as it’s dedicated to the memory of the victims of Sandy Hook. The parade, which includes 800 people and seven marching bands, will feature a special poster designed to commemorate the victims of Sandy Hook and feature all of their names. Other special surprises are set to take place during the parade, which heads down a 45-minute route to the main field where Castle Hill Little League president Henry Pelayo, local politicians and other special guests will speak in a 30-minute ceremony.

Parade begins at 9am on corner of Lafayette & Castle Hill Avenue Ceremony follows at 10:45am at 1160 Zerega Avenue (btw. Gleason and Powell Avenue)

FREE Things To Do This Weekend

This weekend is Palm Sunday, so many of us will be looking for things to do with the kids after church that will be open for the holiday. This is a great time to explain to the young uns what the palms represent and why they are handed out in church (for us Catholics). I, for change, will have a day off and will be planning something for the girls, probably the Macy’s Flower Show, although they don’t know yet. In their minds mami has to work on Sunday and they are going to be working on the packages of school work and coloring sheets I prepare every weekend for them.

If you have plans to go out with the kids but still are not sure of what to do with them, here is a list of events this weekend.

Topsy-Turvy: A Camera Obscura Installation by New York-based artists Sandra Gibson and Luis Recoder. Topsy-Turvy will re-imagine one of the world’s oldest moving image devices into a life-sized 10-foot by 10-foot structure. Park visitors will be able to enter the interactive, large-scale installation, which will use the physical properties of light to capture images of the surrounding Flatiron District in real-time. This centuries-old artistic medium will alter how visitors experience the park and engage with the various elements of New York City’s urban landscape through a new and exciting lens. Macy’s Flower Show 2013: Floral arrangements adorn Macy’s Herald Square for two weeks, and this year there is a South Asian Theme. Besides the beautiful and artistic arrangements, their will also be high tea, live music, and children’s reading circles. On Sunday, March 24, their will also be cookie decorating, balloon twisters, glitter tattoos, and photo opps in the kids department starting at 2:00m. Macy’s Herald Square, 151 West 34th Street, New York, New York. Daily from 10:00am to 9:00pm. FREE.
