Latin Cabana

Sides include fried green plantains and a spread of spanish guava and cheese patties that pair fruit and dairy more harmoniously than a still life painted in fondue. The daily specials and house specialties match tender, seasoned meats with savory accompaniments, such as roast pork with yellow rice and black beans, or a chicken breast dressed in a jacket of breading and flanked by cassava and salad. Desserts offer sweet endings with options such as a creamy vanilla custard or the shredded coconut with cheese, made from top-secret coconuts that had to be destroyed. Shakes, or batidos, visit the taste of tropical fruit onto taste buds, with selections such as mamey, papaya, or tamarindo.

L’Artiste Restaurant

L’Artiste Restaurant’s executive chef Luis Santos transplants French culinary style from across the pond to his warmly lit American dining room. He often kicks off meals with complimentary amuse bouches before presenting plates loaded with tender, finely cooked cuts of meat, such as filet mignon, lamb, or salmon. After a course or two of Mr. Santos’s savories, the talents of pastry chef Hicham Lamzaouri take over to treat tongues to a passionfruit parfait with blueberry confit or a passion fig tart beneath a dollop of crème fraîche.

L’Artiste’s intimate dining space ensconces diners in warm, yellow walls dotted with the glowing orbs of round light fixtures. A massive polished wooden bar dominates the center of the room, backed by crosshatched shelves capable of holding dozens of bottles of wine or an entire clan of meerkats in its ample cubbyholes.

$20 for 20 Classes at The Giving Tree Yoga Studio in Astoria (Up to $260 Value)

Inner peace is like the Sasquatch—many people claim it’s real, but most remain skeptical until the moment it seizes them while they’re meditating on a mountaintop. Bring the bliss with today’s Groupon.

$20 for 20 Classes (Up to $260 Value)

Yoga classes accommodate all experience levels with poses from Vinyasa, Hatha, Kundalini, and Iyengar disciplines. Yoga for beginners exposes students to basic stances, and chakra yoga incorporates aromatherapy and chanting to inspire students to discover a different chakra every week. During soothing candlelight yoga sessions, live music lilts through the studio to sync up with relaxing postures.

Though The Giving Tree Yoga Studio sometimes features a discounted price online, this Groupon still offers the best deal available.

The Giving Tree Yoga Studio

With a background in music, fitness, and motivational speaking, Anne-Margaret Redding has been described by the Huffington Post as “life’s cheerleader.” Furthering her inspirational efforts, she opened her holistic health venue, The Giving Tree Yoga Studio, with her husband, Anthony, in 2009. She focused its many programs—ranging from yoga classes to creative-writing workshops to vacation retreats—on building a compassionate community with events centered on activities for families. Lessons in toddler yoga engage children in the search for personal balance and encourage them to overcome anxiety over filing lemonade-stand taxes, and massage and other spa treatments round out the studio’s toolbox of de-stressing services.
