I was watching The Maury Show yesterday, and to my surprise it was not a paternity episode. It was  on overweight babies and the ordeals the moms go through to satisfy their kids insatiable appetites. These kids weigh over 100 lbs. and they are all less than 4 years old!!! How do you let your child get like that and where are the doctors that check these kids? When I go to the well-care visits for my girls, there is always a nutritionist that keeps a record of my kids’ weight and development. When my youngest was a little under weight because of the flu, I still had to visit the nutritionist until her weight was back on track.  I don’t understand how a parent does not take a more active role in their kids eating habits. One woman complained that it hurts her to hear people make comments that her child is overweight. Well you know what lady, its your damn fault so don’t get mad when others make comments.

As a parent, its your responsibility to look out for your child’s welfare. Don’t get mad when others make a comment you do not like because it’s about your child. People are not mean, they are just pointing out a fact that you do not want to accept. Yes it hurts if someone says something about your child but you are the parent. You should-be been in charge of the situation in the first place. Maybe you hearing the fat comments and jokes will motivate you to do what has to be done to save your child from avoidable diseases and illnesses. Many kids in this country suffer from obesity that can be avoided if the parent would actually parent. Kids have to many options and many parents are quick to give these options without setting limits.

My girls know better than to throw a tantrum over food. It’s a general rule in my home that you eat what is being served and everything on the plate must be eaten. If you refuse to eat what is being served then you simply do not eat and get ready for bed. I’ve heard of homes where 2 and even 3 different meals are made to satisfy everyone in the home. Do you know how much money you end up spending on your food budget if you continue this practice? A missed meal will not harm your child and you will start to take control over your child’s eating habits. If your child sneaks food from the refrigerator, then put a lock on it and all the cabinets if necessary. Snacks are earned in my home and that is after keeping their room clean all week, good grades on the tests administered said week at school and good overall behavior at home. TV and video game time also has to be earned but they must attend all their karate classes throughout the week.

Some might say I’m too strict with my girls but it’s because I want them to excel at everything they do and lead healthy, productive lives in the future. They have everything they can possibly want and more, but at the same time appreciate it and value the hard work it took me to get it for them. I love my girls and I will do everything in my power to keep them safe, even from themselves.
