Feeling Blah……

Family

Sometimes I get the feeling that I’m not using all my skills and potential to better my family’s lives. There are so many things I want to do, but with lots of responsibilities I never seem to feel fulfilled in my daily life. I’m fighting an uphill battle when it comes to the family business. I took over a business that has a lot of potential but continues to be debt ridden. The debt what not caused by the economic state of the nation, but by internal mismanagement. My father loves to repeat over and over that we are millionaires, but what good is it to have assets and no liquid funds or savings to help in an emergency. I don’t know what my father is thinking, but I have worked at changing things around for a few years now. I’ve had to completely stop working outside the home so I can dedicate myself full-time to the business. All for a legacy that sometimes I wonder if its even worth saving at all.

We have had this business for so long that my drive tells me I have to fight to save it. If I don’t try, I’m going to always wonder if I made the right choice. First order of business was to get my father in check. My brother and I, after constant nagging from my part, had a family meeting and put our foot down with our father. For some reason, our parents are worse than children as they get older. My father is at a point in this life where he does not care about finances. He just wants to live his life day by day. He doesn’t worry about tomorrow and because of this he almost lost all of our assets. My father stopped paying bills, not for lack of income, but just because he did not feel like it. It’s still an issue, but my father is on a “leash” and has complied with the limits my brother and I, which really means I, set up. He still has his relapses, but it’s not as bad as before, and I must admit he has done pretty good lately.

All of the money I had in savings had to go to help my dad out, so none of our assets were lost. Now, we have our home, but I have no type of savings whatsoever. This is not good as I need to be ready for anything, especially since I am a single mom. All these problems are what fuel my lack of motivation sometimes. Lil ol me a lot of weight on her shoulders and I get help from no one. My depressive states come from me feeling lonely and alone in this world I sometimes feel as if my family only looks for me when there is a problem. No one ever looks for me just to ask how are you doing or do you need any help.

I can’t change how my family acts and the things they do or don’t do, but I can sure make changes in my life to enrich me and expand the family business. I am going to be making some changes for the new year and I am going full steam ahead, whether I have the support of others or not. It wouldn’t shock me if I am alone, but hey, that’s how it’s always been. No one every looks at everything I do or have planned to do. They only look at the outcomes without wondering about the hard work and effort I have put into getting to that place. Regardless I will always be there for my family, whether I have their support of not. I am a firm believer of  “an eye for an eye” but sometimes you just have to let go and let things be. Sooner or later people will notice you and come to appreciate everything you have done and what you are about. In the mean time I am going to work on me……
