Elf Antics Day #5

20131205-215555.jpg

This is the first year we do the Elf on the Shelf, and of course I’m all late with it. Us Puerto Ricans don’t have these kind of traditions, so it’s all new to me. Today, the girls found the elf, appropriately named Buddy, in the kitchen hanging out by the bag of bags. I’m excited to see the girls face tomorrow when Buddy is in a different location.

Are you guys doing the Elf  on the Shelf this year?

$14 for a Four-Piece Personalized Letter Package from Santa Mail ($28 Value)

Though children occasionally send holiday letters to reindeer and Christmas trees, their respective lack of opposable thumbs and opposition to paper prevent them from ever writing back. Find your young’un a receptive Yuletide penpal with today’s Groupon: for $14, you get a personalized letter package, including shipping, from Santa Mail (a $28 total value). The package includes the following:

  • A personalized letter from Santa, postmarked from North Pole, Alaska (an $8.58 value)
  • A Good List Certificate stating the recipient has been good (an $8.46 value)
  • A birthday card sent on the recipient’s birthday (a $6.76 value)
  • A personalized postcard from Santa on vacation after Christmas (a $4.20 value)

The pen-wielding wizards at Santa Mail help Old Saint Nick keep in touch with wide-eyed kids and stuff stockings with cheer for months to come. Personalized notes from one of six templates inscribe festive, acid-free linen paper with icicle-scented ink, buckling up for their global journey in envelopes embossed with gold ink. Bearing a stamp from the North Pole, the notes then travel to the home of desired recipients before Christmas Day. Each mistletoe missive is addressed directly to the lucky child in realistic handwriting-style print, and a gold foil seal adorns the Good List Certificate and instantly distracts any teachers about to assign bad grades.

Dear Santa…..I’ve Been A Good Girl This Year!!!

A Danish Christmas tree illuminated with burni...

Christmas is a time for giving and sharing. I love that my daughters already are writing their letters to Santa and have done all their chores, trying to accumulate last-minute brownie points for the good list. They still believe in Santa and are hoping their letters will arrive early so they can get everything on the list. I love seeing their innocence and joy as we decorate our home for the holidays.

For some reason, all this is lost as we get older and that spirit of giving seems to die out. My father sometimes makes comments like “This is a waste of time decorating the house”. I look at him with a what the f*** look on my face, take a minute to calm down and turn up the radio as to drown out any more stupid remarks from him! I don’t know when he changed but its gotten worse over the years. Is this my destiny, am I going to hate the Holidays when I get older?

I hope not, but I can’t help but see how the Christmas spirit dies out the older you get. When it comes to adults, you give something to someone because it’s from the heart and you took the time to think about that person. Why then do people ask “What do you want for Christmas?” This defeats the purpose of putting thought into a gift when you ask, and I think its disrespectful and rude. So for those that cannot put thought into a gift or are just too lazy to do so, here’s my Christmas List with direct links.

  • 2.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
  • 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM — 2x4GB

  • MacBook Pro 17-inch Hi-Res Antiglare Widescreen Display
  • Backlit Keyboard (English) & User’s Guide
  • Accessory Kit
